I'm Janica, a Houston-based portrait photographer, and this is the JBO PHOTO blog. Here, you can check out my recent work, get the scoop on jbo photo sessions, and find out more (probably a LOT more) than you ever wanted to know about the day-to-day adventures of my quirky family.
Thanks for stopping by...I hope you'll visit often!
At least, he was for approximately 4 minutes of my nearly 3 hour visit.
Who wants to waste time sleeping when there is an entire world to discover?
A boy’s got things to do!
There’s cuteness to practice…
Mamas to snuggle…
Bottoms to show off…
And muscles to flex!
Life on the outside is GOOD.
Jennifer and Ben are now the proud parents of handsome, busy, Benjamin Luke. He’s absolutely precious (obviously) and I can tell that he is going to fit in nicely with Jennifer and Ben…and their 4 dogs. (one of which is 120 pounds of adorable clumsiness!)
Sweet Jen, I know you have your hands full, but you’ve got this motherhood thing DOWN. Nonetheless, here’s wishing you many, many more moments like these:
I will admit, I have had the pleasure and good fortune to photograph a small handful of weddings over the past year, but I try to keep that a bit on the down-low. I love the excitement and emotions of a wedding day…but I’m just not ready to jump in and call myself a “real” wedding photographer. I’ll leave that to the professionals.
However, when an incredibly special mother/daughter duo known as Leanah and Micah McCombs started to drop not-so-subtle hints about wanting photo coverage for Micah’s upcoming wedding to one Samuel Jones, I was tempted. And when Leanah started offering home-baked goods and Micah proposed a barter for some of her amazing artwork, how could I say no? I was in. We knocked out a super-fun engagement session, and began the countdown to the big day.
I made a good decision.
The wedding was full of genuine warmth, tenderness, and the unmistakable love between two sweet souls. Handmade touches were everywhere you turned, and the entire experience was undeniably authentic.
Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, for including me in your wedding day.
(and high-five to you, Chrystal McLemore, for shooting with me!)
your blog page makes me happy . awesomely shot m’dear!

Awesome photography and couple! What a great wedding THAT was…especially the “make your own cake and ice cream”…why didn’t I think of that??? Who needs silly $4.00/bite wedding cake! I loved it…everything about it.
Great job, Janica! I especially love the socks and jumping pictures. I am sure you were a delight to work with. You should do more weddings.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for doing such an awesome job of capturing the joy of the day. Micah and I wanted no one else but you!

OH! And did I follow-thru on the home-baked goodies, Janica?!? I think I’ve permanently lost some memory cells this year…. I don’t remember baking anything for you, but I would LOVE to do so!
The hand-me-down tu-tu with which Bailey had a brief obsession with about a year ago has been rediscovered. She now insists that it is called a “ting-toe”, although she seems embarrassed when I repeatedly try and correct her. No matter how you say it, she is convinced of one important thing – it has escalated her dancing abilities tenfold. Really, the hips have not stopped jiggling for days. (Hers, not mine. As far as you know.)
You know how it goes when your kids do something painfully cute. You sit and watch in paralyzed adoration, patting yourself on the back for creating such an unbelievably entertaining creature.
Then suddenly, you think – “Oh! If only I had the video camera! Wait…maybe I should go get the video camera. But surely the moment will have passed by the time I grab it and make it back. No…I can totally get it fast enough. Where is the camera? Does it have batteries? A memory card? I’m hungry…”
In the meantime, the precious once-in-a-lifetime trick that your little one is performing is quickly coming to an end. You bark at the kid to freeze! stay right there! don’t stop! and you dash away to retrieve the camera. (and a cookie). Upon your return, you gently encourage your child to pick right back up where they left off. And make it look spontaneous. Sometimes, you get lucky, and your efforts result in recorded proof of why your child deserves to be a YouTube sensation. But let’s face it. Most times, you end up with take after take after take of an over-it kid being coaxed along by the desperate voice behind the camera.
Frank (age 4) made me watch the last one 3 times. “Wook at that cwazy boy wunning frew da yard. His shoes don’t match. I want to pway wif him. Can we go to his house, mama?”
