The Kindergarten Kid

He’s been x-ing the days off of his calendar with mounting excitement.  And finally, FINALLY, we reached that big red circle.

It’s SCHOOL TIME!

A quick pep-talk to a little sister who was pretty darn sure she should be going on that school bus, too…

♥ Goodbye sister kisses. ♥

Goodbye Mom squeezes!

(and kisses and pats and hugs and rubs and tickles and one really good butt-pinch)

At long last…here it comes!

Pure Boy Joy.

And off he went.

I was a little disappointed to see that the bus windows were heavily tinted… I wasn’t able to see him once he rounded that corner.

But – just as the bus began to pull away, and the weight of the moment settled into my butterfly-filled stomach, I saw that precious little head pop up in one of the back windows.  I will never ever forget the excitement and wonder on Parker’s face in that moment.  He waved frantically, caught the kiss that I blew his way with all of my heart, and was gone.

I am so proud of you, Parker.  I love my school boy.

To think of what a little peanut he was when I first “met” you on TBW. What a big, beautiful boy he is now!

Oh my goodness Janica…I sent my Hope to K this year too. I remember when they were just babes…peeking out of baby carriers. :( How time does fly…but it sure is sweet.

I think your GIF is running out of order…

That was a great touch, by the way. Great idea!! :)

So cute! My my, that’s a lot of Silly Bandz on Parker’s little wrist… I’m sure he traded quite a few at school today.

Did his little cheeks hurt by the end of the day with all that grinning? Great great pictures–leave me smiling, too.

I am so impressed by your animated gif! I can tell just how excited he must have been! He is absolutely adorable! PS. Love that you added that butt pinch line… hehe

Thank you for taking all the pictures…I remember three such special days myself and now I feel like I have experienced four! How could it be that just yesterday my little girl, Janica, was taken to Beneke Elementary in her homemade smocked dress and long blonde curls and left there with no tears in her eyes, but plenty in her Mom’s eyes???? Can I REALLY be this old? I am sooooo proud of you PBo and for all the support that Bailey gave you too! That school bus is BIG!

Precious, precious, precious!!!
Thanks so much, Janica, for capturing the moment. These pictures brought tears to John’s eyes–and mine. Oh the excitement and the sweet brother/sister tenderness.

Well, I cannot lie…I cried! Even though I know that he was thrilled all I can think of is what a mess Aunt Honk will be this time next year with Reiss! I am SO proud of you Parker! You are a wonderfully funny, smart young man and you Bailey could not have a better Mom!!

Long-Live Summer

Not gonna lie, with Matt in L.A. and no preschool mornings to break up the week a little bit, these summer days can get mighty…long.

But sometimes, when the pool is full, the beer in your hand is icy-cold, and the children frolicking in front of you are (for the most part) squealing with joy and convulsing in giggles – the day just doesn’t seem long enough.

Long-live summer.

Long-live inflatable plastic pools.

Long-live moments like these.

Kindergarten.  Less than a month.  Wow.

“I am NOT a baby.  I wear princess panties.”

Clever defense.

It’s all fun and games until…well, until Bailey says so.

Pool time-out so Parker can flex some mad airbending skills.

Impressive, I know.

But a kid can only resist the splash-fest for so long…
