For Heaven's Sake

Oh Parker.  Dear, sweet, Parker.  There are days when you simply drive me batty.   But, just when I think that you have driven me to the very brink of frustrated insanity – you pull out something so ridiculously innocent and cute that I can’t help but want to plant fat kisses all over those chubby kid cheeks.

If you know the lad, you know he’s a talker.  And an asker.  We have the same roundabout conversations over and over, day after day.  Once he gets going, bless his heart, he just can’t seem to shut down his sweet, stuttering stammer.  Now, I am delighted that he has taken such a precocious interest in football.  He can dazzle strangers with his talk of teams, players, positions, and uniforms.  It is admittedly adorable that he begs to wear his Texans jerseys every stinking day.  I am amazed at his understanding of downs, interceptions, and fumbles.  But at times, a mama can only take so much.

In the car yesterday, I had just about reached my limit.  I had been repeatedly scolded for (truthfully) answering “I don’t know” to too many of his inane and obscure football questions, and I wasn’t sure if I could take another moment of pig skin musings.

“Mom, I fink the Cinciati (sic) Bengals are going to play the Timba Bay Bucaneers on Monday Night Football tonight?”

“Today is Wednesday, Parker.”

“No, I fink it’s Monday Night Football.”

“OK, whatever, baby.”

“Is the Cardinals a football team?”

“No, Parker,  they are a baseball team.”

“No Mom, they are a college football team.”

“Oh.  OK Parker, you’re right.”   (I mean, seriously?!? How does he know these things??)

“Mom, I fink the Cardinals are from the Louisville college.”

“OK, Parker.”

“No, Mom, the Cardinals are a football team.  For college.  Not professional.  They play defense and Rutgers plays offense.”

“OK, Parker.” (blood pressure elevating slightly)

“Does the Cardinals play defense?”

“They play both, Parker.”

“No, Mom, I fink they play just the defense.”

“OK, Parker.”  (breathe Janica breathe Janica breathe…)

“No, Mom -”

Parker!” (deep breath) “Parker, my ears need a little break for a minute, OK?”

“OK, Mom.”

-a moment’s pause-

“Mom?”

“Yes?” (through clenched teeth)

“Is heaven a city?”

Oh, to be four years old.  It is a big, confusing world out there.   I suppose I should be thankful that football is relatively straightforward by comparison…

Look, Matt, I’m smart, talented, and unreasonably good-looking. Can’t you just cut me a LITTLE slack with the damn NFL trivia?? Good grief, man, what more do you want from me?

xoxo

OMG! I’m laughing, I’m crying, I’m just amazed. What an incredible woman you have become. I always thought you were a beautiful girl with the sweetest spirit and full of mischief (remember youth group and camp when we stayed up all night?), but looking at your site, I see what a RESPLENDENT woman you are now! I’m so proud of you. Your children are adorable and no doubt, after reading Parker’s inquisition about football, just as curious about the world as their sweet Mom. I miss you and I love you. ~Robin

(P.S. Shannon sent me Crystal’s blogsite and I saw your link….had to click and so glad I did!)

Danielle

As the former Secretary of the Westfield High School class of 1998, it is my privilege to introduce you to the former President of the Westfield High School class of 1998.  Meet Danielle.

Yes, the gal and I go way back.

It was SO great to hang out with an old buddy, and old buddies just don’t get much more lovely than this.  Can you say flawless?  Danielle is getting ready to dust off her acting chops and do some auditioning, and I was pleased as punch to be able to hook her up with some sassy new head shots.  Danielle and I theater-ed together back in high school, and I can tell you first hand that she is a dynamo on stage.  Very best wishes, my friend.  I can’t wait to see you in action!

Great shots! Clearly a matchless combo of a great subject and an alarmingly talented photographer.

Tee-Tee in the Potty

My mom has mentioned a couple of times recently that Bailey’s diaper has been dry when she wakes up from her naps.  Yesterday afternoon, I noticed this very fact as I went to change her  right after naptime.   I thought, “Eh, what the hay?”,  pulled out Parker’s old Dora potty seat, and plunked her down.

I’ll be darned if that girl didn’t tinkle.  Immediately.

Now sure, I am 99% sure that it was a total fluke, but it made for an exquisite moment of Mom-pride, nonetheless.

My sweet little sprinkler. :)

Woo-hoo! Go Bailey! Good thing she had those chubby legs to keep her from falling into the potty!

Nice job Bailey! Way to show Mommy how much easier girls are to potty train than boys :) Hugs and kisses
