Eleventh Grade, Eighth Grade

Here we are.  Again.  For the first time.

After cramming in as much travel and family fun as a brief false sense of security during global pandemic would allow, it’s time to go back to school.  Is COVID gone?  Nah.  Are my kids vaccinated?  Yeah.  Are schools continuing to offer safe learning environments to protect our children and our most vulnerable?  Nah.  Are they going back to school because, really, what other choices do we have?  Well, yeah.  I am weary.  I am angry and disappointed.  But I am celebrating Parker and Bailey as they continue to plow through their educational careers with (mostly) unbridled success.

Bailey is the president of her school’s Thespian Troupe.  Parker is now the proud owner of Mom’s car, which has been rescued from the clutches of evil, detailed within an inch of its life, and then sage-ed appropriately.  Parker and Bailey are resilient, flexible, compassionate, and kind of good-looking.  They make me belly-laugh daily, mostly because of their intentional humor, but sometimes because they just say the dumbest things.  Bailey, for instance, was astonished that we were able to visit the Paul Revere house on our trip to Boston, because she didn’t know that he was actually real.  We were perplexed by her shock, until she asked if he really did have a big blue ox.  I mean…wow.   And Parker?  Don’t bother him, he “just be listening to music.”  Who are these brilliant idiots, and how did I get so lucky to have both of them as my very own?

I have good kids, doing good things, and I love them a bit more wildly every day.

Now go to school, jerks.

Bonus footage of Parker leaving at 6:00 a.m.  Give the boy a pat on the back…he let me take proper photos once Bailey got home at 5:00 in the evening.  What a guy.
